LEATHER FURNITURE

 Mike A Caldwell

Shopping for furniture can be a bit confusing as there are different kinds of leather, different levels of quality and, of course, different price points. And buying the most expensive furniture doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get the best and longest lasting piece. By being a knowledgeable shopper you can get the best deal possible and find a quality piece of furniture that will always look good, feel comfortable and last forever.
Unfortunately many furniture stores hire people who don't know that much about the furniture or they're working on commission and will throw a lot of jargon your way to confuse you. The best way to combat this is by educating yourself and learning something about the terms used when referring to these types furniture.
Top Grain
Leather is not simply the hide of an animal, hides are actually split in two pieces with the outer layer, the part you'd consider the skin, is called top grain leather. Top grain is the best quality and most supple and durable. Look for top grain if it falls within your price range as it's the better quality product.
Split
Split is the counterpart to top grain as it is the underside of the skin which is on the inside of the animal's hide. Split is usually pieced together and less durable and more stiff than top grain leather. Split is also usually dyed more heavily which makes it stiffer but its generally the only choice you have if you want an unusual colored piece of furniture.
Aniline Finish
Is a one dye process and little or no buffing and work is done to repair imperfections. Analine finishes are applied to the best pieces of top grain leather as these pieces look the best naturally and in this case it's the real natural beauty of the hide that you want to shine through.
Semi-Aniline Finish
A semi-aniline finish means the hide has gone through a series of dying and surface treatments. These processes come with benefits and pitfalls. The benefits with a semi-aniline finish are that you can get some great colors and there is more protection from staining and wear so its great if you have children or pets. But semi-aniline is stiffer, less comfortable and won't develop the great patina that aniline finishes will over time.
Nubuck
Nubuck is a top grain leather that has had the outside surface sanded or buffed to create a nap and a velvet type feeling. Some may confuse nubuck with suede but suede comes from the inside of a leather hide, nubuck is the outside meaning its stronger and more durable. Nubuck is typically expensive but it is one of the most durable types of leather available.
Pull-Up
Pull-up is coated with a heavy wax or oil on the surface which gives the furniture piece a distressed look over time. These pieces are generally very attractive, especially over time but they do tend to have a slippery feel and are susceptible to scratches and faded butt marks.
Match
Be wary of salespeople who toss around the phrase match without fully explaining to you that it means there are actual pieces in the most notable places, but the other spots (backs and underside of cushions) are made of vinyl that is dyed to match. Match is good if you're on a limited budget and not planning on keeping the piece forever. But if you want a quality piece of furniture that will last a lifetime and will fade and age evenly, match is not for you.
If you know these terms and understand what you're looking for it will make the leather furniture shopping process much easier and you're more likely to get the performance out of your leather furniture that you were hoping for. Don't let the store you're shopping at try to confuse you with terms, if you're feeling a bit overwhelmed or think something shady is going on, leave the store. You can either go home and research the jargon that you heard so you know what you're getting or go to a different store where you feel more comfortable. Furniture is expensive and meant to be a long term purchase so don't feel pressured and rushed and don't let someone confuse you into purchasing an inferior product.

GREAT CARS UNDER 1000 DOLLARS

Brian Ostrowiak

Looking for a fun car that you can buy for pocket change? Take a look at the Honda CRX, arguably one of the best light weight hatches to come from Japan.
Profile: Honda CRX
The Honda CRX came to our shores in 1984 and offered the great package of fun and economy at very low price. The CRX came in two generations and a couple of different models. Ones of note would be the HF which was the lightest weight model that also got an insanely good gas mileage, and the Si model which offered the greatest performance and welcome upgrades like fuel-injection. This little Honda offered a very capable chassis despite having some what less exotic hardware of other models. Many of the CRX's came stock with a carburetor and in early models used a beam axle type rear suspension. In later models this was updated to the much better double-wish bone design which allows so many Honda's to be real giant killers on the race track.
So why is this car worthy of All-Star status? Well of course "it's a Honda" so that means rock solid reliability, fuel economy, and a good ergonomic design.(You can also stuff a lot of crap in the hatch too) However that is just what makes the vehicle a good common sense choice to own for the daily grind. What makes these cars so much fun is the fact that Honda built an extremely light weight car and for those of you not in the know light weight makes for better braking, handling, acceleration, and fuel economy. Although the stock engine choices can provide adequate power those looking for a whole lot more have a seemingly limitless amount of available upgrades. In fact some of the best upgrades can be found in doing a motor swap B16, B18, H22, and the list goes on and on. There are even lots of great upgrades for the stock drive-train and suspension. When it comes to Honda's you can pretty much build a car to do anything from drag, autocross, trackdays, racing, etc. the huge level of aftermarket support is a huge testament to the popularity and capability of these cars.
When shopping for one although I included both generations in this profile I will note that the first generation will be easier to find in the sub-$1000 dollar price range. These cars can be very sought after especially the Si models, but a good search will have you finding what your looking for. A lot of examples may already be modified so be careful to do a close inspection and make sure your not winding up with somebody else's failed and beaten on project car. Of course remember to keep your purposes for the vehicle in mind and remember that Honda parts are still quite cheap so finding a solid body and a nice interior is worth looking for.
So now that we know a little more about Honda's great hot hatch all you need to do is go find one!

EARNING A DOLLAR

 Robert Lemoine

A dollar. It used to be so much. Now it seems like it's nothing. The new generation has no appreciation for the cost of a dollar. The youth of today see us go to the store and slide a piece of plastic through the machine and we leave with "stuff". They have no idea how it works.
My wife and I try to pay with cash on most items so our kids see it's not magic. They watch us at flea markets when people give us money in exchange for merchandise. I think this summer we will let our kids bring back the "lemonade stand". I think it will help them to understand how a dollar works. When I was younger, I wanted a toy that cost about $50 and that was a lot of money for a toy in the early '80's. I was told "NO".
But then my very insightful step-Dad said I could work for it. He had a pile of bricks that had just been thrown into a pile in the wrong spot in the yard and needed them stacked neatly by the fence on the other side of the yard about 250 - 300 feet away. I carried bricks one in each hand, then stacks of 4 or 5 at a time, and then just whatever I could handle. I was so tired. Every day after school for about a week I carried and stacked bricks until dark. When all of the bricks were moved, I was given the money to go get that toy...it was the first Optimus Prime Transformer.
I paid for it with my HARD EARNED DOLLARS and had maybe a couple of dollars change back. A few years ago, they moved that stack of bricks to almost where they started out at. Anyway, I hope to give our kids the same life lesson that a dollar is not just something everybody has and that you have to EARN it. Keep in mind that when we were growing up, our parents went to the bank to deposit a paycheck and went to the bank to get money. It was real, not just a "magic" piece of plastic.
This story was originally written on April 16, 2009. I failed to mention in the story that I still have that toy tucked away in storage. Jeffy Cole, the man who taught me about a dollar, left this world on April 24, 2010. His birthday is quickly approaching and I thought this would be a great tribute to him. After his passing, those bricks moved once again. They are now in my yard, stacked neatly where my boys placed them. That's right, I used them to teach the same value I learned as a small boy. Who knows, those same bricks may be used in the future to teach another generation the value of a dollar.
May you all have a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year. God bless you all.

online earning

Adam T Bryle

There are many ways to earn online from home, its just a matter of choosing the right way for you and what suits you best. Nowadays a lot of people are searching how to earn money online, but there are a lot of scams across the internet and few legitimate work from home jobs. Hopefully i can give you 3 best way to earn money online. Some of these you can make money online without investment, but some you will require to pay. Some are these are online part time jobs that won't be able to make you a sufficient income, but a nice tidy sum. So lets get on with the 3 ways to earn money online from home.
Freelancing: You can start earning online by becoming a freelancer, basically you just offer your services whenever they are needed. You work when you want basically. If you search on Google you should come across some websites that offer freelancing work, they would be the middle man basically finding you work and letting you know, some are free to join, but some offer a premium service, meaning they would offer you better payed work. Freelancing is probably one of the best legitimate work from home jobs, as you will be able to work in your own time, and select which projects you would like to work on. Like with any online jobs, how much you make is down to how much you want to work. I must stress that there is no ways to make money fast online, if there was a way to make money on the web, everyone will be doing it. Like with any work, you have to work hard to earn a lot of money.
Sell photos on stock photography sites: Do you like taking pictures, do people usually say wow on Facebook or flickr when you upload your shots, why not get paid for these photos. Nowadays its easier to get your photos out into the public. Obviously theirs going to be competition, but its a good way to earn a second little income. And for me, well i wouldn't treat photography as a job, but more as a hobby, and who knows, maybe you could become the next big thing, anyways Try Shutterstock and see how you get on there, for any other photo uploads site, just hit in a simple search term in Google and I'm sure a few sites will come up. Again the i would say is an easy ways to make money online.
Affiliate Marketing: This type of marketing is where you signed up to an affiliate programme, and you promote the merchants product through whatever way you choose. It could be through your own webspace or writing articles through squidoo (Most article sites like EzineArticles will not allow you to place an affiliate link on their page but squidoo does) The most active sectors in affiliate marketing at the moment are gambling, adult, retail industries and file-sharing services. My advice would be to head over to ClickBank and start through them. Affiliate marketing is probably the best way to make a substantial income online. With affiliate marketing, you can make money online without an investment., and in my eyes is the best way to earn money online. There is a place online where you can learn and earn online with affiliate marketing, and any type of marketing.
My names Adam T Bryle, for me my way of making money online is with affiliate marketing, and for every other type of marketing I am learning at the number one internet marketing university. I have a WordPress blog that was built in less then 60 seconds, I offer free basic internet marketing tips, and other ways that you can start earning online.
